Erogonomics

"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live"
-Jim Rohn

When I worked at Starbucks, I was usually placed on the bar. This meant I was making drinks and cleaning the area. During my first Christmas season, I started getting pain in my right wrist. I went to the doctor and found out it was because of the repetitive and awkward ways I was moving my hands. This was when I realized how the way I moved when I worked would affect the way my body felt.

Ergonomics is the study of how efficient people are in their working environments. This is most often applied to office work. Humans have become very reliant on computers, but their postures are suffering as a result. You may have heard that when you're working at a computer, your feet need to be flat on the ground and the monitor needs to be at eye level. It was found that this helps prevent injuries and other health problems. How you decide to work will determine how you feel at the end of the day. If you work in awkward positions, you will be more tired and achy at the end of your work day.

Once I realized that the way I worked effected how I felt at the end of my shift, I worked to find more efficient ways to complete tasks. Eventually, I stopped having wrist problems and felt better overall after each shift. As a designer, ergonomics really interests me. I want to be able to design efficient work spaces for everyone.
